otto – the successor to Vagrant

I was reading about otto

today – the successor to vagrant. Vagrant was one of those things that was easy to pick up, hard to master, but completely and utterly invaluable.

For those of you out there not using Vagrant, it allows you to simply create a virtual machine and run a complete development environment in said virtual machine. If you work on a team, it allows all of you to use the same VM so you don’t run into issues such as “it works on my machine!”. You can use it to better match your production environment as well. In addition, it doesn’t matter if everyone uses a different host. We have a few guys in the office that run Ubuntu, and a few that run Windows, and it doesn’t matter since all the code is executed in the VM.
